Matai Akauola’s diary from Rio

Oi (Bula) from the Olympic Games Village in Rio.

As you wake up to a Wednesday morning in the Pacfic, we are closing of on a hot Tuesday here in Rio, venue for the 2016 Olympic Games which will officially open in 10 days’ time. Rio is 15 hours behind Fiji.

This morning’s Chef de Mission’s meet was attended by Cook Islands, Guam, Fiji and Vanuatu.

There was much improvement from day one, as accommodation issues were being addressed and attended too.

There were complaints of the Brazilian military helicopters flying over the Games Village and disturbing sleep.

Head of NOC/NPC Relations and Services Lenny Abbey, Director of Olympic Village Mario Cilenti and Toshio Tsurunaga have assured the Chefs that everything is being done to address all the complaints.

A couple more Cook Islands and Guam athletes arrived into the village today.

One of Fiji’s hopefuls, Glen Kable gets into the village tomorrow and Papua New Guinea Chef Emma Waiwai is expected tonight.

Expecting to meet Fiji’s Ambassador to Brazil at the Pacific Hospitality House on Copacabana Beach.

So until tomorrow,  ‘boa noite’ (good night).....
