OCA President welcomes Oceania delegates in Turkmenistan

​The President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) - Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah welcomed representatives from Oceania to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan during the opening of two new hotels for the 2017 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games (5th AIMAG).

The Oceania delegates are in Ashgabat at the invitation of OCA, the 5th AIMAG Organising Committee and Government of Turkmenistan.

Present also at the opening of the “Olympia” and “Sport” hotels are representatives from the 45 NOCs members of OCA who are here for their General Assembly.

In his opening speech, Sheikh Al Sabah acknowledged the presence of the Oceania NOCs and said he looked forward to 2017 when Oceania athletes will be participating in the 5th AIMAG.

The Oceania countries represented in Ashgabat are: Cook Islands, Fiji, FSM, Guam, Marshalls, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomons, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Tahiti, Niue and Northern Marianas. 

The Oceania presence is being led by ONOC President Dr Robin Mitchell and Secretary General Ricardo Blas.

The OCA General Assembly inauguration will be done tonight and the one day assembly held tomorrow.

The assembly will also brought to par with updates on Olympic Solidarity, Rio Olympics, Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and various other committee/commission reports.

This will then be followed by elections for OCA office bearers from 2015-2019.
