Pohiva – a star of the Pacific, says Polye

Papua New Guinea’s Opposition Leader Don Pomb Polye today acclaimed Tonga Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva as a ‘star of the Pacific.’

Polye bestowed this phrase at a meeting with Pohiva in Port Moresby to discuss issues facing both countries.

He commended him for his leadership in addressing human issues in his country, forming a Pacific Island Nation block to discuss issues affecting the region and redrafting Tonga’s constitution to transform Tonga’s monarchy into a democracy where the people have a voice in their communities and nation.

He said Pohiva was a strong advocate of good governance, quality leadership, shared and equal distribution of wealth, human rights, rule of law and democracy among others.

“PNG needs these values in its governance.  Tonga is an integral part of the region to enhance Pacific solidarity,” said Polye.

“Pohiva is a role model for the Pacific Island Nations.  Following his example, Pacific Island Nations will lead the world in creating true and integral development in the 21st Century.”

Polye said  PNG should be a member of this block.
