Pop superstar Prince has been cremated in a private secret ceremony shortly after his body was released to his family in the US.
The cause of Prince's death on Friday, age 57, was unclear, requiring a four-hour autopsy to be conducted by the Minnesota medical examiner's office.
His body was cremated in the presence of his sister Tyka, who may inherit his $800 million fortune, his nephew and another family member at First Memorial Western Chapel in Minnesota, the Daily Mail reported.
His body was cremated an hour after it arrived at the chapel.
A family friend told The Mirror that Prince had given clear instructions about how he wanted his death to be handled including that he did not want a large service.
"He wanted it to be kept to the minimum of fuss. Prince was such figure you don't need a funeral to remember him by," the friend said.
"The world has his music instead. He wanted to simply disappear with no fuss, no drama, no fanfare. It was just his style.
It could not have been more different to Michael Jackson's service that was full of Hollywood razzmatazz."
Fans flocked to the star's Paisley Park home in the hours and days after his death, sharing stories and leaving touching tributes to the music industry legend.
The star's closest friends and relatives, such as ex-fiancee Sheila E, bass player Larry Graham and his ex-wife Mayte Garcia, attended a memorial service at Paisley Park on Saturday afternoon local time.
