South Africa are using All Blacks' loss as motivation for England clash

South Africa are using the All Blacks' historic defeat to Ireland as inspiration for their clash with England.

Springboks forwards coach Matt Proudfoot praised Ireland for executing a 'sound plan' to beat the All Blacks for the first time ever, thanks to a 40-29 victory in Chicago.

The Springboks were nearly embarrassed by the Barbarians, who featured a healthy sprinkling of Kiwis in their team, and they needed two late tries to snatch a 31-all draw at Wembley last weekend.

And ahead of facing England, who are ranked second in the world behind the All Blacks after winning their last 10 matches, Proudfoot says their using Ireland's win over the All Blacks - their first in 111 years - as motivation for the clash at Twickenham on Sunday morning (NZ time).

I think the key there is the Irish had a very sound plan and executed it very well," Proudfoot told the Daily Mail.

"Their line-speed was tremendous and they took the All Blacks on where the All Blacks wanted to play, and nullified them as well.

"I thought the kicking game of the halfbacks was exceptional as well, and that forced the All Blacks to play from very deep."

Proudfoot says watching Ireland conquer the All Blacks proves that international teams can beat anyone with the right intensity.

"The intensity of the Irish side is what you've got to have in test match rugby," he told the Daily Mail.

"You hear every week 'we've got to turn up', it's a common cliche thrown about but that is the epitome of test match rugby.

"If you turn up with that intensity that's right there, then yes you can beat anybody."
