Star Wars fans attempt to beat world record for biggest lightsaber battle

Star Wars fans gone rogue in the US, with cities attempting to break the record for the world's largest lightsaber battle.

Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle attempted to break the record, gathering thousands of fans together for some spectacular action.

The existing record stands at 7000 people with hopes the latest effort will push the record above 10,000 when the results are verified.

The latest Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, looks set to break records in the US with an opening weekend taking of over $US250m ($NZ266m)
