Steven Adams makes mark as OKC Thunder roll past Wizards

Kiwi/Tongan Steven Adams posted his 12th double-figure scoring output of the year in a balanced offensive display from the Oklahoma City Thunder against the Washington Wizards.

Adams had 10 points on four-of-five shooting as the Thunder beat the Wizards 114-98 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma to improve to 37-13 for the NBA season. The 22-year-old Kiwi was one of five OKC players in double-figures as they lifted their home mark to 23-5 and secured their 11th win in the last 12.

It was another solid effort from the 2.13m Kiwi at the offensive end where he continues to round out his game. He mixed a couple of nice low-post moves with a thunderous alley-oop dunk off a Russell Westbrook pass and a trademark offensive rebound putback.

Adams has now hit the double-figure mark in four of his last eight games and continues to command significant time as starting centre. He played 31 minutes against the Wizards and rounded out his statline with three boards, an assist a steal and a block. His only black mark was an off night from the free-throw line where he made just two from six attempts.

Adams also had OKC's best plus/minus of the night with plus-18.

The Thunder, as always, got major contributions from superstars Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, fresh off being named the Western Conference's player of the week.

Westbrook had his seventh triple-double of the season and second straight with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists as he got the best of his matchup with Washington point guard John Wall (17 points, eight assists, four rebounds).

Durant had a game-high 28 points and nine rebounds, while Serge Ibaka added 19 points and 10 rebounds and Enes Kanter came off the bench to chip in with 14 points and five boards.

Bradley Beal (18 points) top-scored for the Wizards who have now dropped four of their last five.

The Thunder, with a firm grip on third spot in the Western Conference, host the Orlando Magic next up on Thursday (NZT).
