Tevita’s hopes to reach people with his music

“If music can help make me feel better, I only hope I can reach out with my own music and do the same for others”

Tevita Halahingano Hafoka an emerging artist from Tonga hopes to spread happiness to people with his group Kava Drive.

Tevita’s passion for singing began when he was 5 years and his family started signing him to sing for occasions like birthdays and singing competitions.

“I started singing in Tonga and it was in those performances I began to enjoy singing and found I had a passion for it as well as listening to music”

“Singing became an escape from any form of disappointment and still is to this day”

Tevita was invited to grog with friends and a guitarist in Fiji when the group came up with the name Kava Drive for their group.

“We were asked to perform in a few function and we discovered that since we all enjoy playing and singing together, why not just form a band, so we came up with the band Kava Drive.

Tevita and his group are still working together to be out in the public since they just started.

“We are still working on exposure and getting our group out there.

“We sing for minor occasions like dinner functions and birthdays. Whatever gets our brand/band out there?”

Tevita is currently a student at the University of the South Pacific pursuing a degree in Psychology and Literature & Language.

He manages to focus on his music and practice and at the same time his studies.

Tevita plans to complete his degree and also continue his music band.

“I hope I can reach out with our own music to the people out there and if I can turn it into a career, then that would be even better”
