Third Pacific Meteorological Council ends on a high note

The third Pacific Meteorological Council Meeting (PMC -3) ended on a high note Thursday evening with the endorsement of the Outcomes Statement to be submitted to the first Pacific Meteorological Ministers meeting today.

Amongst the resolution passed is the hosting of the 4th PMC in Solomon Islands in 2017.

Solomon Islands Meteorological Services Director David Hiriasia said Solomon Islands is happy to host the next PMC – “it will be good for the Meteorological Services in the Solomon Islands.”

Hiriasia said the PMC-4 will be looking at the many recommendations from this year’s meeting, and track progress of the implementation of some of the decisions from PMC-3.

He also took time to acknowledge the support from Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, for nominating Solomon Islands as the next host of the PMC.

Meanwhile, Tongan Meteorological Services Director Ofa Fa’anunu said, Tonga was privileged to have hosted the event, which attracted close to 100 delegates, development partners, the media and regional organisations.

It was also the first time that Ministers of Meteorological Services from around the Pacific are meeting after the PMC.
