Tonga Power prepares for growth, signing on enterprise software provider TechnologyOne

Tonga Power Limited (TPL) has signed an agreement with leading enterprise software provider TechnologyOne, to purchase its OneEnergy enterprise solution.

The partnership will assist Tonga Power to remain financially sustainable, and thereby achieve its core purpose of reducing Tonga’s vulnerability to oil price shocks. The solution will also empower Tonga Power to optimise the performance of its assets, ensuring the Tongan community has quality access to modern energy services.

Steven ‘Esau, Tonga Power Ltd’s Finance Manager said: “TPL tendered out this project and based on the RFP criteria, TechnologyOne met our needs. Their software had a proven track record with other utilities in the Pacific. It contained all the modules we need in one place, so customer service should be easier and faster to address.

“Anyone can access this web-based software from anywhere at any time, meaning that different access levels can come from staff, board members and ministerial level. It can facilitate end-to-end processes from the current Orion Billing System, through to resource allocation, asset management and reporting. The correct procurement process can be tracked whether it be TPL, ADB, World Bank, NZ MAFAT (TPL’s donor partners), or the Tonga Government Procurement Process. The new software will set the process clearly and in a more transparent way.

“Tonga Power plans to rollout Financials as the first phase of the implementation in September, followed by Asset Management and Human Resource Management. Other important modules around Project Assessments will come later,” Mr ‘Esau said.

Lualala Tapueluelu, TPL’s IT Technician said: “As we move forward with Smart Meter installation, which consists of the live reading of meters, TPL will need a more robust ERP system to realise its full benefits. Customers will soon decide the source of power generation and prices of power generation they will use, which is the time of day usages rates. These are some of the anticipated benefits moving forward with this software."

With a strong presence in the South Pacific region and a number of nearby customers, including Fiji Sugar Corporation, Eda Ranu and Solomon Islands National University, TechnologyOne offers Tonga Power more than 28 years’ market experience and an unrivalled commitment to the support of customers in the region.
