Wallabies name four debutants

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has picked three debutants in his starting XV for the first Test against England in Brisbane - but Karmichael Hunt will have to wait for a Test debut after missing out on selection.

Towering Brumbies second-rower Rory Arnold, Queensland Reds centre Samu Kerevi and Western Force utility back Dane Haylett-Petty have been named in the Wallabies starting side, while back-up halfback Nick Frisby will also earn a maiden Test cap off the bench.

Israel Folau has been named at fullback, while a new centres pairing of Kerevi and Tevita Kuridrani shows that Cheika did not think Brumbies playmaker Christian Lealiifano had enough time with the squad to slot into the No.12 jersey after staying in Canberra to be there for the birth of his first child.

Haylett-Petty is the biggest bolter in the squad on the wing, joined by reliable Waratahs product Rob Horne on the other side of the field.

However a Test debut will have to wait for the former NRL star in Hunt, who has been battling a groin injury in the lead up to the highly anticipated three-Test series against Eddie Jones' England.

Cheika has opted for Greg Holmes as the starting tight-head over Sekope Kepu, who will come off a forward-heavy bench that includes Tatafu Polota-Nau, James Slipper, James Horwill and Dean Mumm, the latter of which has barely come up in discussion in the lead up to the team announcement.

The ever-reliable back-row combination of Scott Fardy, Michael Hooper and David Pocock will be there once again to cause breakdown havoc, but it is the inclusion of Arnold in the second-row alongside Rob Simmons that will be the major talking point heading into Saturday's fixture given Jones said he didn't think Cheika would be game enough to throw the 208-cm giant in the deep end.

England will announce their 23-man team on Friday.
