Pacific Senator to meet with local fashion designers

Even a glimpse is good enough if it’s by someone like Australia’s Minister for International Development and the Pacific Senator, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells.

Fierravanti-Wells, who arrived in the country yesterday for an official visit, will have a chance to meet with a few in PNG’s fashion industry.

The first encounter was today where Fierravanti-Wells visited the Goroka Bilum Weavers Collective’s products, escorted by managing director Florence Jaukei Kamel.

Satisfied with the opportunity, Kamel, also known as the bilum meri, said: “I escorted her through the bilum market and told her of the support the mothers here are receiving from Australian Government.

“She bought some bilums and I know whatever I told her, she will take back with her.”

Friday, December 14, Fierravanti-Wells will meet with Wantok Clothing founder and designer Genevieve Igara-Falevai in Port Moresby.

Wantok Clothing received the Stella Runway 2016 Designer of the Year Award, which took her to Pacific Runway 2016 in Sydney, Australia – supported by the Australian High Commission.

Wantok Clothing was also the official designer of Miss PNG 2016 to the Miss Pacific Island Pageant 2016 in Samoa.
