Wantok Clothing has once more secured the position to be the stylist for the 2017 Miss PNG entrant to the regional Miss Pacific Islands Pageant in Fiji, later this year.
This will be the third year for business partners Henry Iyaro and Genevieve Igara – Faleva.
The duo won the Traditionally Inspired Dress (TID) category at the 2017 MPIP PNG project runway last night.
Among 10 other creative designs, Wantok Clothing’s TID spoke wonders, amazing the crowd and blowing away the judge.
The TID design worn by model Sheilla Yama, was a representation of their name Wantok, which reflects on relationships.
Winning outfit
The outer wear – various bilum designs – bold and cultural – with each patch hand woven individually and then pieced together; from the Eastern Highlands boasted designs influenced from all over PNG. The neckline was carefully lined with cuscus fur.
The inner dress is a tribute to Milne bay – a combination of Woodlark Island mat, each designs specific to the island, decorated with shells and pearls.
The outfit was topped off with a headgear adorned with Kaori shells.
Wantok clothing was the last designer on the runway, but managed to walk away with the K4000 price money – part of the winning package for the TID category.
