Samoa and Fiji have set up a winner takes all finale this weekend after posting emphatic victories on matchday two in the Oceania Rugby Women's Championship.
Mele 'Akuila opened the scoring for Tonga with a second minute try but it proved to be a false dawn as Samoa responded with 12 of their own to run away with the first match of the day 68-7 in Lautoka.
Manu Sina 15s captain Masuisui Pauaraisa was pleased with the improvement shown from their first-up win against Papua New Guinea.
"We went away from our first game and we kind of worked with our rucks - that was our main focus throughout the whole game," she said.
"Our first game: that was our first game together, not knowing each other’s strengths and weaknesses but this game it actually brought us together."
"We went away from the first game, we worked hard as a team and we knew it was going to be a physical game against Tonga so what we did was just set up our forwards and spread the ball out wide," she said.
Defending champions Fiji raised the bar even higher, scoring 16 unanswered tries to thrash Papua New Guinea 96-0.
Fijiana 15s captain Rusila Nagasau said the home side were able to put into practice their work-ons from the first round victory against Tonga.
"Most of the ball went for the forwards and I think they scored the most tries today," she said.
"What we talked about in the blackboard is trying to push them back, especially the forwards try to put pressure on them and that's what we did today.
"Especially our backline, we were just trying to put pressure on the PNG backline to stop them from getting to the advantage line."
The winner of Saturday's final round clash between Samoa and Fiji will be crowned Oceania champions.
The traditional rivals last played a women's international in 2006 in Tonga, with the Manu Sina winning that match 27-15.
