Tongan captain Piutau impressed with performance against England

Tonga Captain Siale Piutau was impressed with his team’s performance despite losing to England in their first Rugby World Cup match Sunday night.

Tonga managed to hold the England onslaught in the the first 23 minutes as both teams were leveled at 3-all.

In an interview with World Rugby after the game, Piutau says their plan was to bring a lot of physicality to the game, but that was not enough to tackle England.

“I think the learning is basically making our one-on-one tackles, I think taking the opportunities when they arise. I think we weren’t clinical enough when finishing opportunities were down in their half. But yeah, this is obviously learnings from the last game, learnings from this game. We are going to really improve from this.”

England went on to win 35-3.

Tonga will now face Argentina at 4.45pm on Saturday while England will take on USA at 10.45pm on Thursday.
