Germany keep their unbeaten run intact

Germany defended their first half lead to make Korea Republic their third scalp in Group D of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

Germany defeated Korea Republic 2-0 at Sir John Guise Stadium tonight in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

German backline, led by Captain Rebecca Knaak, Pia Sophie Wolter, Isabella Hartig and Dina Orschmann, withstood their rival's attack.

Both teams had many chances in the second half to score but failed to hit the back of the net in front of 7,218 screaming fans.

The two goals scored in the first half of the match were from the boots of Dina Orschmann and Stefanie Sanders.

Orschmann put a well-placed kick into the back of the net at the 12th minute after continuous raids into the opposition's territory.

And the lead was extended again in the 25th minute when Korean defenders failed to clear a cross from Anna Gerhardt into the centre of the goalmouth, which was tapped into the net by Sanders.

Korea striker Chaerin Han was off target tonight, with many kicks failing to put pressure on the Germany goalkeeper.

The fate of the Koreans for the next stage of the 2016 World Cup will depend on the result of Venezuela and Mexico’s match.
