Joseph Parker looking to make up for lost time after Alex Leapai victory

Dereck Chisora, Dillian Whyte; boxer Joseph Parker doesn't care who he meets next, he just wants to make up for lost time.

The Kiwi heavyweight made his first appearance in six months in Providence, Rhode island on Saturday (Sunday NZ time) and delivered a one-sided 10th-round TKO victory over Australian veteran Alex Leapai.

The bout was the first of a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing and Parker confirmed his intention to get back get back in the ring as soon as possible as he looks to make another run at the title.

"September, October or it just depends where the card is and the opponent, whoever's ready to jump in the ring," Parker said. "I'll fight anyone, like I said I don't care who it is. Put me in the ring and I'll take your business. I think the better opponent the more I lift my game, so line them up."

While Parker didn't deliver the early knockout, it was a dominant performance from the former WBO heavyweight champion.

He was always in control and it was surprising to see the fight get out of the first round as Parker looked to make an early statement.

Leapai showed incredible toughness to survive as long as he did. But Parker praised his corner for helping him maintain a patient approach.

"I'm happy with the performance. We're going to celebrate this victory and we're going to look forward to the next fight," Parker said.

"I want to get in the ring gain soon. I'm in good shape, I'm going to maintain the training we've been doing and keep improving on what we just achieved."

Parker landed 157 power punches to just 37, according to Compubox.

The 27-year-old showed great composure to stick to the game plane throughout the contest as Leapai absorbed an incredible amount of punches.

"It was a lot of punishment," Parker's trainer Kevin Barry said. "It's alright being tough but you have to also be smart and tough. I feel sorry for how Alex is going to feel tomorrow."

Much has been made of Parker's newfound professional approach between training camps.

It has come with a lot of sacrifices and Parker is looking forward to reconnecting with his family before getting back into the hard work.

"I'm excited to go see my kids. I missed my daughter's birthday so I can't to give her a big hug."
