Amazon adds live TV channels to Prime Video

People will be able to subscribe to popular channels such as Discovery and Eurosport individually, without paying for a bundle of channels.

Until now, Prime Video has offered only on-demand films and TV shows in the UK.

But one analyst said the launch line-up of channels was "not immediately desirable" and would struggle to attract satellite TV customers.

"Amazon launched a similar thing in the US, and the big selling point was that you could get HBO and Showtime programmes, all under one umbrella," said Tom Harrington, an analyst at Enders.

Gandhi flip flops sold on Amazon cause anger in India

The row comes days after the online retailer apologised for selling doormats featuring the Indian flag.

Gandhi, who campaigned for independence from Britain, is widely revered and known as the Father of the Nation.

The Indian embassy in Washington had been told to tell Amazon US to respect Indian feelings, a foreign ministry spokesman was quoted as saying.

Fury over India flag doormats for sale on Amazon

Sushma Swaraj tweeted that Amazon should issue an "unconditional apology" and withdraw the "insulting" products.

Failing this, she said India would rescind current visas for Amazon officials and not grant any more.

Amazon said it had removed the doormats from its site.

In a series of tweets, Ms Swaraj asked the Indian High Commission in Canada to take up the issue with Amazon after it was brought to her attention by another Twitter user.

Amazon unveils plans for grocery shop with no checkouts

The Just Walk Out shopping experience uses the same types of technologies found in self-driving cars.

The system detects when items are taken or returned to shelves and tracks them in a virtual shopping trolley.

Once the shopper leaves the store, their Amazon account will be charged and receipt sent to them.

The first shop is expected to open to the public in Seattle in the US in early 2017.

Online reviewers have not been kind to this Donald Trump Christmas decoration

More than 1,000 people have reacted to the "Make America Great Again" cap with 91% giving it just one star.

Most have left a politically-charged comment about the decoration and Mr Trump's surprise win in the US election.

Why the timing for Amazon's 'Good Girls Revolt' 'couldn't have been any better'

The drama -- based on a Lynn Povich book of the same name -- follows a group of women at the fictional News of the Week magazine as they fight for their right to pursue careers as reporters in 1969.

At the time, women were only allowed to hold the title "researcher" -- though, they did the same (if not better) work as the male reporters to which they were assigned.

Anna Camp, Genevieve Angelson and Erin Darke star as women who work at the publication.

The book chronicles the real-life effort spearheaded by a group of women from Newsweek.

Shares of both Amazon and Google parent Alphabet are now trading above $800 a share. Amazon is slightly higher than Alphabet -- but not by that much.

Both stocks are near their all-time highs. However, Amazon (AMZNTech30) seems to have more momentum than Alphabet.
