Johnny Depp has 'moved on' from Amber Heard dramas

A source told People Magazine: "In the last year, he's been able to touch all these different parts of his life that he hadn't been able to do that much before because he was so busy dealing with the matters tied to the Heard trial.

"It's nice for him to be an artist first and foremost."

Depp recently explained that he's consciously distanced himself from Hollywood over recent months, following his legal battles.

Heard, 36, wrote on Instagram that she had made the "difficult" choice to settle, adding the decision was "not an act of concession".

She and Depp, 59, faced off in court earlier this year, where jurors heard intimate details of their relationship.

A jury then found Heard had defamed Depp in an article in which she said she was a victim of abuse.

The terms of the settlement were not immediately clear.

The BBC has reached out to Depp's legal team for comment.

Two weeks ago, a jury said her domestic abuse claim was defamatory and false.

Heard, in her first interview since the verdict, said she didn't blame the jury for believing her ex-husband.

They had heard "three weeks of non-stop, relentless testimony" about "how I was a non-credible person", she said.

NBC released a clip of the interview on Monday, with more to be broadcast later this week.

The seven-person jury deliberated for 12 hours after being sent out to consider their verdicts on Friday.

The verdict was met with screams outside the court and chants of "Johnny, Johnny, Johnny".

The case was brought after an article by Heard in which she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse.

But Ms Heard's team argued Mr Depp brought her to court simply to "destroy her".

Mr Depp, 58, has denied any abuse and has sued his ex-wife for $50m (£38m).

Ms Heard has in turn, sued him, with a $100m counterclaim.

Hordes of fans have already gathered outside the Virginia court for the trial, expected to last up to seven weeks.

The actor is suing the publisher of the Sun - News Group Newspapers (NGN) - and executive editor Dan Wootton, over an April 2018 article that referred to him as a "wife beater".

Mr Depp has strenuously denied that he was violent towards Ms Heard.

But NGN lawyers said the "wife beater" description was "entirely accurate".

Both Mr Depp and Ms Heard were in court in London on Tuesday morning.

Depp, 53, has agreed to pay Heard $7m (£5.6m; €6.6m), which she says she will donate to two charities.

Heard, 30, will get to keep the couple's dogs, Pistol and Boo, who were at the centre of scandal when she took them to Australia illegally in 2015.

She had accused Depp of domestic abuse - a claim he denies.

According to court documents, she said Depp had been physically abusive to her, culminating in him throwing a mobile phone at her face during a fight in February last year.

She recently pledged to donate the $7m (£5.3m) settlement to two charities for abused women and ill children.

But he has begun to donate the money directly in her name, instead of giving it to her first, leading her to accuse him of trying to reduce his total bill.

She said he must now "honour the full amount by donating $14m to charity".
