Junior Fa’s team to appeal KO result due to ‘illegal’ punches

South Aucklander Fa was stopped in the first round of his fight against 43-year-old Australian Browne in a huge upset on the undercard of the George Kambosos v Devin Haney main event at Melbourne’s Marvel Arena on Sunday.

It was only Fa’s second defeat in 21 professional fights after he lost on points to Joseph Parker in February last year and if it stands it will be potentially career damaging.

Convicted Tongan MPs given stay by appeals

The quartet includes three cabinet ministers, the Deputy Prime Minister Poasi Tei, Finance Minister Tatafu Moeaki, and Sangster Saulala, along with the former Prime Minister Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa.

They lost their seats when accusations of bribery of voters ahead of last year's election were proven.

RNZ Pacific's Tongan correspondent said, now, with all the ministers able to stay, the Tongan Parliament, which has been deferred twice in the past two weeks, is likely to sit next week.

Kalafi Moala said getting the Budget passed is the critical thing for the government.

Appeal over Russian figure skater's doping suspension

The 15-year-old, who became the first woman to land a quadruple jump at the Olympics en route to winning a team figure skating gold with the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) on Monday, tested positive for banned heart drug Trimetazidine in a urine sample collected by Russian authorities on 25 December.

However, medals for that event, in which the United States and Japan finished second and third, have yet to be handed out after Olympic officials discovered her positive test.

Users can appeal Facebook's editorial decisions

Previously the board only heard appeals from users about content they felt had been unfairly removed - or referrals which came from Facebook itself.

The board has the power to overrule Facebook's original content decisions.

Its 20 members include former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt and ex-Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger.

Anyone can submit content to the board for re-review, providing it has been reported to Facebook in the first instance.

Prosecutors fight George Pell's appeal for sex abuse convictions

Pell, 77, is appealing against a jury's decision to convict him of sexually abusing two choirboys in 1996, and abusing one of the boys again the following year.

He is currently serving a six-year jail sentence for the crimes, but his legal team has presented 13 reasons they say show the convictions should be overturned.

Pell's lawyer, Bret Walker SC, yesterday argued the jury could not have been satisfied of Pell's guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Semenya lodges new appeal

The two-time Olympic 800 metres champion challenged a new IAAF ruling that will require her to take medication to lower her testosterone levels in order to compete against women in track events ranging from 400m to a mile.

Semenya ruled out retiring after winning the 800m at the Diamond League event in Doha, just two days after the CAS ruling was announced at the start of this month.

The new regulation has since been implemented and Semenya has now launched a fresh appeal amid uncertainty over her future in the sport.

Ben Barba to fight lifetime ban

The fallen NRL star presented himself to Mackay police and was charged with two counts of public nuisance over an incident at the Townsville casino in January.

The former Dally M Medallist will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on March 22.

Barba reportedly will not face domestic violence-related charges because his partner Ainslie Currie has not made a complaint.

Barba was sacked by NRL club North Queensland without playing a game for the club last month over allegations he was violent towards Currie in the incident.

Tongasat seeks appeal over Supreme Court ruling

The August ruling was made in favour of Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva and the Public Service Association, who are pursuing nearly $US50 million.

The payments were made to Tongasat after China was found to have placed a satellite in Tonga's orbital space in 2006.

Chief Justice Owen Paulsen said the payments were "invalid and unlawful" and granted the plaintiffs legal costs which have yet to be finalised.

Matangi Tonga reports an appeal was filed last Tuesday by Tongasat's legal counsel, William Edwards, to have fresh evidence heard from witnesses.

No outcome on SBW appeal

Williams was appealing the four-match ban from the Lions series that rules him out of the first Bledisloe Cup clash against the Wallabies.

The All Blacks centre was handed the suspension for his second Test send-off against the British & Irish Lions earlier this month.

Williams became the first All Black in 50 years to be sent off in a Test when he was red-carded for a shoulder charge on Lions winger Anthony Watson early in the 24-21 loss in Wellington.

He missed the drawn third Test with the Lions, and the Blues' final Super Rugby match against the Sunwolves.
