Tonga Police arrest 3 over illicit drugs

A 27-year-old male from Pātangata was arrested on the night of Wednesday, 10 May 2023 with seven packs of methamphetamine (0.42g), six packs of cannabis (27.81g) and drug utensils.

Twenty-four hours later, on Thursday, 11 May 2023, Police arrested a 27-year-old male from Pahu together with a 27-year-old woman from Mataika with 14 packs of methamphetamine (2.43g), 11 packs of cannabis (3.19g) and drug utensils.

Police acknowledged members of the public for their ongoing assistance in sharing timely information with Police – a partnership that Tonga Police values.

Susan Sarandon arrested for 'disorderly conduct' during protest

The 76-year-old actress was arrested at the New York State Capitol in Albany, New York after joining a protest in support of fair wages for tipped restaurant workers on Monday (US time).

The Oscar winner and former New York lieutenant governor candidate Ana Maria Archila were among eight people who were arrested for disorderly conduct after the protest moved into the concourse of the building.

According to WNYT, the arrested protesters were processed, issued appearance tickets and released from custody.

BBC reports Protests are erupting nationwide, and at least one person has been killed in the city of Quetta.

The United States and UK have called for adherence to the "rule of law".

Khan was arrested by security forces at the High Court in the capital, Islamabad.

Dramatic footage showed dozens of officers arriving and detaining the 70-year-old, who was bundled into a vehicle and driven away.

Wallabies star arrested over alleged sexual assault

The 28-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted at a licensed venue in Bondi on Saturday, 17 December.

ABC reports the Wallabies player was arrested in Kingsford about 2.30pm yesterday after a vehicle he was travelling in was stopped on Rainbow Street.

The 34-year-old has been taken to Waverley Police Station where he is currently being questioned and is expected to be charged.

Beale has played most of his career with the NSW Waratahs but also had a short spell at Melbourne Rebels.

He joined French team Racing 92 on a two-year deal in 2020.

New Caledonian woman arrested for drug possession

Less than a gram of MDMA, three grams of Cannabis and a sheet of LSD was discovered during a car surveillance check last Friday night.

In jail, she has admitted to taking those substances herself but said that she was not selling.

She was released Wednesday after spending four days in jail.

The prosecutor in charge of the case said that the New Caledonian territory is minimally impacted by MDMA or LSD but a vigilance should be maintained.

     

Men caught smuggling KFC into lockdown-hit Auckland

The men were charged with breaching the country's tough COVID-19 rules.

Under Auckland's strict Level 4 lockdown, all restaurants, including take-away services, remain closed.

Police said the men, aged 23 and 30, had travelled from Hamilton, about 75 miles south of Auckland.

A police spokesperson told the BBC that officers made the arrest after they noticed a suspicious looking vehicle travelling on a gravel road on the outskirts of the city.

Former Barca boss arrested

A regional police spokeswoman confirmed several arrests had been made following an investigation by the force's financial crimes unit, without confirming the number of arrests made or their identities.

The investigation stems from the 'Barcagate' affair which was unearthed last year by Cadena Ser and revealed the club had contracted marketing consultancy I3 Ventures to monitor social media activity.

Ronaldinho maintains his innocence

Ronaldinho and Roberto Assis, the former footballer's brother and agent, were arrested on March 6 shortly after arriving in Asuncion to promote a book and the launch of an online casino.

Local authorities shared an image of what appeared to be a Paraguayan ID card bearing Ronaldinho's name and photo, with the former Ballon d'Or winner and his sibling taken into custody despite prosecutors proposing a different sanction, arguing the pair had been tricked.

Russian arrested in CNMI over military equipment scheme

Court documents showed Dmitrii Makarenko was arrested in Saipan in December and will be brought to the US to be tried.

In 2017, Dmitrii Makarenko was charged in Florida with conspiring and attempting to export defense articles without a license and money laundering.

Florida's Southern District Court issued a warrant for his arrest on the same day.

Late last month, Mr Makarenko was arrested, and he appeared in the US District Court for the Northern Marianas on December 31.

Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona granted a motion to transfer him to Florida.

Morning Star badge embroils West Papuan activist

Filep Karma, the most prominent pro-independence Papuan to have been incarcerated in Indonesia, was held up for questioning by military and police officers at Jakarta's main airport.

It is two years since Filep Karma was released from prison after serving 11 years for treason for raising the banned Papuan nationalist flag, the Morning Star.

Flying in to Sukarno Hatta airport from Yogyakarta, Mr Karma caught the attention of a military, or TNI, officer due to the customary Morning Star badge he wears on his shirt.
