Trump presidency: Canadians ready to welcome troubled Yanks

While Donald Trump has spoken about building a wall between the US and Mexico to keep immigrants out, it is Americans who may be trying to flee.

During this election's vicious campaign cycle, the idea of Americans heading to Canada became a political statement.

InterOil sale to Exxon halted by Canadian court

In July, Exxon agreed to buy out InterOil for $US2.5 billion in a deal approved last month by Supreme Court of Yukon in Canada where the natural gas producer is incorporated.

However the court has now upheld an appeal against the sale, filed by the founder of InterOil Phil Mulacek.

Mr Mulacek has objected to the sale terms, saying it did not properly remunerate InterOil shareholders.

The company owns a 36.5 percent stake in large PNG's Elk-Antelope gas field, which is operated by French energy giant Total.

Syrian refugee becomes wedding-day hero for Canadian couple

While Jo Du was getting ready for her wedding ceremony last weekend in Ontario, Canada, a tooth on the zipper of her dress snapped. Sure, a lot can go wrong on such a big day, but not being able to actually close a wedding dress seems like a particularly bad bit of luck.

Members of the wedding party raced to a neighbor's house to see if they could locate a pair of pliers and MacGyver the dress back on. To their surprise, they found the neighbor, David Hobson, had recently taken in a family of Syrian refugees -- and the father of the family, Ibrahim Halil Dudu, was a tailor.

Royals snubbed by indigenous leader

A prominent indigenous leader has expressed his frustration with the Canadian government by failing to turn up to events featuring the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Monday and Tuesday.

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, president of the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs, was due to join the couple on stage during the 10th anniversary celebrations at the University of British Columbia on Tuesday, but pulled out that morning.

Federal Court Judge Robin Camp is in the midst of a week-long judicial council hearing, which will determine whether he ought to be booted from his position.

The case in question took place in 2014 when Camp was a provincial court judge. (He became a Federal Judge last year.)

The 19-year-old woman said she was raped over a bathroom sink during a house party.

Canada defeat Romania 15-17

Gordon McRorie's penalty and a DTH van der Merwe try put Canada 8-0 in front at half-time.

The lead became 15-0 as Jeff Hassler bounced his way out of some tame tackling to touch down.

But number eight Mihai Macovei went over for two late tries and Florin Vlaicu's penalty won it for Romania.

It is the first time Canada have lost all four of their group matches at a World Cup, while Romania can still finish third in Pool D - securing automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup - if they beat Italy on Sunday.

Canada ring changes and aim for top marks against France

Coach Kieran Crowley admitted that recovering from Saturday’s defeat against Italy and looking ahead to Thursday's clash against Les Bleus has been tough on his squad, but he hopes a school excursion after training has helped clear his players’ heads.

"That’s the biggest challenge when you have short turnarounds, the mental side of it," Crowley said at the team’s Leicester headquarters.

Canada announces money for refuges, but not taking more in

Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government announced Saturday that Canada will provide $100 million in additional humanitarian assistance for Syrian refugee camps but there was no announcement to resettle more refugees in Canada.

Canada has taken in 2,500 refugees. The government announced in January it would accept 10,000 over three years and promised in August to accept an additional 10,000 over four years.

Drowned Syrian boys' aunt wants to bring family to Canada

Tima Kurdi said through tears outside her home in British Columbia that she plans to help her brother, Abdullah, and her other siblings immigrate to the country she made home more than two decades ago.

Abdullah isn't ready to leave his Syrian hometown of Kobani, where his sons, 3-year-old Aylan and 5-year-old Ghalib, and wife Rehanna were buried on Friday, she said. They drowned after piling into an overloaded boat in Turkey headed for the Greek island of Kos. Her brother was among the few survivors.

Drinking water doesn't prevent a hangover, study says

Instead, a study concluded, the only way to prevent a hangover is to drink less alcohol.

More than 800 students were asked how they tried to relieve hangover symptoms, but neither food nor water was found to have any positive effect.

The findings are being presented at a conference in Amsterdam.

A team of international researchers from the Netherlands and Canada surveyed students' drinking habits to find out whether hangovers could be eased or if some people were immune to them.
