Court orders oligarch's superyacht to stay in Fiji

The High Court in Suva has allowed an application by the public prosecutor to stop the superyacht Amadea belonging to Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov from leaving its waters.

Kerimov, who was not on board, is facing sanctions from the United States, Britain and the European Union over Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Fiji's Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde filed the application on Tuesday - a week after the yacht moored at the Lautoka Wharf without customs clearance.

Mr Pryde confirmed that the US is seeking to seize the vessel.

They opened fire at Jitender Maan Gogi inside the courtroom in Rohini where a case was being heard against him.

Officials say police returned fire, killing the two men. Police suspect a rival gang planned the attack.

Gogi was on Delhi police's most-wanted list and he was also an accused in dozens of cases - including murder, kidnapping and fraud - in other states.

The incident has raised questions over the security of Delhi's courts. A senior politician said that the incident showed a serious lapse in security planning.

Tongasat wants retrial to hear new evidence

The payments were made to Tongasat after China was found to have placed a satellite in Tonga's orbital space in 2006.

However, in August the Chief Justice deemed the funds Tongasat received was public money and payments were not approved by government.

His judgement ruled the payments made between 2008 and 2011 were "invalid and unlawful" and granted Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pohiva and the Public Service Association legal costs which have yet to be finalised.

The stepfather was found guilty of one count of rape, six counts of serious indecent assault, two charges of indecent exposure and five charges of domestic violence.

The teenagers’ mother was found guilty of one charge of aiding rape, four counts of aiding serious indecent assault, one count of domestic violence and one of common assault.

The couple appeared before Judge Justice Cato.

“Cases involving sexual offending on young people are taken very seriously by the Courts and are of the utmost importance,” Justice Cato said.

Court orders Tribunal to reconvene and consider Cabinet Secretary’s appeal again

Following a three sided legal dispute between the Public Service Tribunal, Mr Kautoke and the Public Service Commission, Lord Chief Justice Paulsen has ruled that a decision overturning his dismissal should be subject to judicial review.

Kaniva News reports the review was sought by the Public Service Commission acting as plaintiffs with the other two parties acting as defendants.

Cooks chiefs urge family to solve issues outside of court

Up to 24 high chiefs from various islands belong to the parliamentary body and provide feedback on policy issues such as permanent residence and preserving traditions.

Last month a draft practice note written by the country's law society and judges was accidentally released which detailed proposed changes to occupational rights.

It suggested granting occupational rights for 60 years instead of indefinitely which was met with overwhelming opposition from traditional chiefs.
