Apolima Strait Crossing Ocean Swim team finishes first

Team Tonga Digicel finished first with 6:35:00, Team Jo Armstrong of NZ finished 2nd with 7:39:01 and Team Mexico/Samoa finished in 3rd place. 

The team did very well and swam their hearts out. 

At about quarter through the race they took the lead among the teams, extending it to about 1.5-2km until they finished.  

Digicel Tonga participates in Women in Leadership Program

As part of her efforts to share the knowledge from the training, she presented in a session to women in Digicel Tonga on her learnings. 

The leadership workshop delivered learnings through simulations, tactics to strengthen leadership skills and build personal confidence while the executive coaching element helped with career planning.

The program also included a mentoring session which participants with senior leaders within the business would help them better understand the skills to become a better leader. 

Digicel supports 2017 Apolima Strait Crossing Swim Event

Tongan Team of swimmers are the first Tongan swimmers to ever compete in this 22.3km distance. 

They will be competing against teams from NZ and Samoa, and the event will also have International solo swimmers.

The event is said to be the longest Ocean Swim in the Southern Hemisphere and they are the youngest team ever to compete in such an event. 

They are also the first youngest Tongan swimmers to ever swim this distance as a team. 

The team started the race morning.

 

Digicel hosts mental health awareness talks for World Health Day

Digicel partnered with the Psychiatric Unit at Vaiola Hospital in Tongatapu to help promote the awareness this year's program.

A visit to the Digicel Office Friday was led by Dr Violet Erasito and her team to talk to Managers and senior staff of Digicel of the importance of Mental Health, the impacts in today's society and the prevention measures.

 

     

Digicel supports Autism April

Digicel is driving awareness via sms, Social media and on FM88.6 Radio Program. 

From Saturday, 7th April, families will come together at Digicel Square with their program on promoting the awareness of Autism in Tonga. 

 Last Sunday 2nd April, Tonga celebrated World Autism Awareness Day with a special prayer service at the Mango Tree Centre in Houmakelikao organized by Autism Tonga Committee.

Families and friends of the 16 autistic children in Tonga were guests of honour at the service and attended by His Excellency, Andrew Ford Australian High Commissioner. 

Digicel announces its first Regional SMS Game winner

Aisea is a Digicel customer who has been participating in Digicel’s SMS Games since 2008 both locally & Regional.

The Pacific Rugby SMS Game was launched on the 1st March to 31st March 2017, where several Digicel Markets in the Pacific were a part of.

Not only was Aisea in the lead from Tonga but several other gamers from across Pacific Islands such as Vanuatu & Samoa were competing with Aisea for the Grand Prize.

Digicel Tonga promoted this SMS game on social media, text blast and press throughout the month of March.

Digicel Supports Tonga Rugby League

The competition started on 13th February and  will finish with finals on 29th April 2017.

There are 14 Rugby League Clubs participating in this year’s competition and played at Tofoa Fields every week.

TNRL have put up cash prizes for Top 4 winners.

$3,000 for 1st prize

$2,500 for 2nd prize

$2,000 for 3rd prize

$1,500 for 4th prize

The competition has been running for years and this year it celebrates 25 years.

Digicel Tonga celebrates St Patrick’s Day

People turned up in green to get free data as well as free giveaways and sausage sizzle made available to all customers that bought from the on-foot sales team.

The promotion created hype amongst those familiar with the Irish day celebrations and the Digicel team were not short of this. 

St. Patrick’s Day occurs annually on March 17 in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. 

The day is traditionally marked by celebrating Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.
