Speedo and Ralph Lauren cut Lochte ties

Speedo USA has announced the termination of its sponsorship of Ryan Lochte and Ralph Lauren will not renew the swimmer's contract following his false robbery claims.

Lochte - along with Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen - alleged that they were robbed at gunpoint at a petrol station after attending a party. 

Rio 2016: Bolt storms to 200m gold

The majestic Usain Bolt once again broke new ground at Rio 2016 by storming to a third successive Olympic 200 metre title and the eighth gold medal of his illustrious career.

Bolt made history last weekend when he became the first man to win the 100m on three occasions, a time of 9.81 seconds enough to get the better of nearest rivals Justin Gatlin and Andre De Grasse.

Rio 2016: Two athletes disqualified after positive doping tests

Brazilian cyclist Kleber da Silva Ramos and Chinese Wimmer Chen Xinyi have been disqualified from Rio 2016 following positive doping tests.

Da Silva Ramos did not finish the men's road race, but tested positive for EPO and accepted a provisional suspension without requesting a hearing.

Mascherano ruled out of Barca's Liga opener

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has been ruled out of his side's La Liga opener against Real Betis due to a hamstring strain.

The Argentina international suffered the injury during Barca's Supercopa de Espana success against Sevilla on Wednesday.

Mascherano came off to leave his team, who had used all three substitutes, to finish with 10 men.

Nadal eases past Cuevas

Rafael Nadal continued his solid form with a straight-sets win over Pablo Cuevas in the Western and Southern Open second round.

The Spaniard, who lost the bronze-medal match at the Olympics on his return from a wrist injury, gained a measure of revenge over Cuevas with a 6-1 7-6 (7-4) victory.
