Noble MP says Former Tongan Minister should lose his seat

Lord Vaea says there seems to be a double standard at play.

Tongan govt says it sacked Vakata

RNZ reports Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pohiva's office says Mr Vakata was asked to resign by noon on Monday but after they received no response a submission was placed with the King to revoke his cabinet appointment.

On Wednesday the King accepted the submission thus terminating Mr Vakata's ministerial roles.

On the same day Mr Vakata said he resigned.

Mr Pohiva said he wishes the former minister the very best with his future endeavours and said he will appoint a new minister when he returns from a trip to New York in a week.

Tonga strengthens oversight after seasonal workers abscond

The Internal Affair Minister, Fe'ao Vakata says one contractor told him 74 of his workers had disappeared before the contract was up and he estimated that of 1400 Tongans in total across Australia about 300 had gone.

He says he suspects they are now overstaying.

Mr Vakata says at the moment contractors can come to Tonga and recruit their workers with no government oversight but this will now change.

Tonga to learn from Pacific Games travel failures

Last week the government had to front up the travel bill for 59 remaining athletes whose federations failed to pay their air fares to Papua New Guinea to compete in this year's Pacific Games.

The Minister of Youth, Employment and Sports, Fe'ao Vakata, says the Tonga Amateur Sports Association and other federations were disorganised and it's the last time the government will front up travel money due to their lack of preparation.

Vakata says the Ministry will work on setting up a separate institute of sports for Tonga alongside criteria for selected federation members.
