Fiji Airways: Nadi-SFO selling well with good forward intakes

Fiji Airways Executive general manager Corporate, Shaenaz Voss, said they had anticipated this given the large demographic of Fijians and other Pacific islanders in the area (San Francisco).                     

“Our inaugural flights to and from San Francisco are showing good loads and we continue to see healthy booking trends,” she said.

The new commercial agreement between the Fijian and the Jetstar Group of branded airlines including Jetstar Airways, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Pacific will connect Fiji Airways’ newly launched Singapore to Nadi route, with more than 21 destinations on Jetstar’s network from Singapore, including the Philippines.

Fiji Airways commenced twice-weekly direct flights to Singapore on April, creating the first ever direct flights between Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.

The Straits Times reports a total of 100 Singaporeans boarded the inaugural flight to Fiji at 10pm, while 170 Fijians had arrived here earlier in the morning. The flight from Changi had been delayed by 11 hours due to typhoon and flood warnings in Fiji. Nonetheless, passengers were unfazed.

“Fiji is a great location for holiday makers, and I'm looking forward to a week of relaxing on the beach and enjoying the sun,” said sales manager Dyana Chua, who boarded the inaugural flight with a friend.

But according to Kaniva News, the airline made a change after it considered the low record of passengers coming to Vava’u at this time of the year so it included Nukuʻalofa in its Vava’u’s flightpath.

Hundreds turned up to the Lupepau’u Airport to welcome the arrival of the aircraft yesterday.

Tonga's Vava'u get all clear for international airport

This follows a request from the subsidiary of Fiji Airways to include Vava'u as a destination.

The Tonga government says arrangements for the flight are accommodated by a 2008 Memorandum of Understanding for Air Services between Tonga and Fiji.

Fiji Link plans to fly in an ATR 72-600 aircraft twice a week.

Andre Viljoen, the airline’s managing director and CEO, announced in Suva yesterday that starting in June Fiji Airways would start seasonal flights –  June, July, August, September 2016 – 2018.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the new service would provide a number of feeds.

The World Airline Awards are a global benchmark of airline excellence, and widely known as the Passengers Choice awards.

The top five airlines in the world this year are Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Turkish Airlines and Emirates.

MA60 will be available within a month, says Tonga’s Finance Minister

Radio Tonga News reports that Civil Aviation is in discussion with two companies that are interested in leasing the aircraft.

One of the interested party is Tonga Airways, previously known as Royal Tongan Airlines.

According to the Acting CEO of Infrastructure, Pesalili Tuiano, Tonga Airways will need to submit documents to show the change before the airline submits its interest for the MA60.

It’s believed there is a misunderstanding between senior officials on the establishment of the new airline.
