Fiji Bati name NRL-heavy squad for Samoa test

Wests Tigers speedster Kevin Naiqama is set to play his 10th test for the Bati after missing the Melanesian Cup defeat to Papua New Guinea in May.

Manly hooker Apoisai Koroisau and Knights forward Korbin Sims are also poised to pull on the Fiji jersey for the first time in 2016, while Lautoka-born Panthers centre Waqa Blake is in line to make his test debut at Apia Park.

Apia test a chance for Fiji Bati to test World Cup hopefuls

Toa Samoa will celebrate 30 years of rugby league in the country by playing its first official Test on home soil against the Bati.

Fiji Bati coach Mick Potter said it will be a chance for some younger players to impress.

"We're going to have the opportunity to have a look at some guys that probably just sit below some of the other players. We've had about 13 players have to pull out for various reasons so we've got a pretty deep squad and there's an opportunity to have a look at some younger guys playing, as well as some regulars you've seen before."

Fiji police find another body part of Russian woman

The Fiji Sun reports the part was removed from a reef after being spotted by a man out fishing.

The woman Nataliya Gerasimova and her partner Yuri Shipulin were residents of Fiji when they disappeared in mid-June.

They were killed and part of their bodies were found on the beach a week later.

     

Fiji golfer Sam Lee to come out swinging

 The 26 year old made his professional debut 18 months ago at the New Zealand PGA Championship and also competed on home soil at the Fiji International.

But after missing out at qualifying school he has spent the bulk of 2016 at home reshaping his game.

PNG denies Fiji to qualify

Tongan ship that hit Fiji reef monitored for fuel leaks

The MV Sitka was bound for Solomon Islands, after being purchased by the Malaita Outer Islands.

The Fiji Times reported that the six Tongan crew were rescued and had returned to Tonga after it hit the reef last month.

The Managing Director of Solomon Islands Oceanic Marine Albert Wong, who facilitated the purchase, told the Solomon Star last week he would travel to Fiji to salvage the ship.

The ship has been moved off the reef and was anchored near Kadavu between Muaninuku and Tabuya villages, but villagers were monitoring it in case it leaked fuel.

Fiji Navy checks on Tongans

Fiji Times reports Navy deputy commander Marika Vosawale said he could not divulge details until they received information about the Tongans.

The men, who were on board MV Sitka, are now at Kabariki Village, Nabukelevu, Kadavu, after their ship drifted last Saturday night between Muaninuku and Tabuya Island, near Kabariki Village.

The ship, which had been sold to a company in the Solomon Islands, was on a voyage to Honiara when it drifted.
