James Bond to stay on the big screen after Amazon deal

The tech giant bought MGM in a purchase worth $8.45bn (£5.97bn) this week.

Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson stressed that the deal did not mean the spy would be pushed solely to Amazon's streaming service.

"We are committed to continuing to make James Bond films for the worldwide theatrical audience," they said.

The rights to Bond were shared by MGM and Eon Productions, which is run by Broccoli and Wilson.

Broccoli is the daughter of original Bond producer Cubby Broccoli, and she and Wilson still have creative control of the character.

Release of James Bond film No Time To Die delayed - again

The premiere of No Time To Die had already been moved from April to November because of the pandemic.

The film has now been further delayed until 2 April 2021 "in order to be seen by a worldwide theatrical audience", a statement on the film's website said.

"We understand the delay will be disappointing to our fans but we now look forward to sharing No Time To Die next year."

No Time To Die, the 25th instalment in the Bond franchise, marks Daniel Craig's final appearance as British secret service agent, 007.

The producers said they had moved the release of No Time To Die from April to November after "careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace".

The announcement comes days after the founders of two 007 fan sites called on the film studios to delay its release.

It will now come out in the UK on 12 November, and in the US on 25 November.

No Time To Die, which is due to be Daniel Craig's final appearance as the British secret service agent, had been due for release on 3 April.

Sam Smith had the only other 007 chart success, when Writing's On The Wall from Spectre went top in 2015.

Eilish, who turned 18 in December, is the youngest artist ever to record a track for the Bond franchise.

The star performed No Time to Die live for the first time this week, at the Brit Awards in London.

She also picked up the prize for best international female at the ceremony.

No Time To Die racked up 90,000 equivalent chart sales in its first week; including 10.6 million streams.

The US singer, who turned 18 last month, is the youngest artist in history to write and record a theme for the franchise.

"James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I'm still in shock."

The last two Bond themes, Adele's Skyfall and Sam Smith's Writing's On The Wall (from Spectre), have both won an Oscar.
