Taumalolo, Scott face suspensions

Taumalolo will miss one match with an early guilty plea but risks a two-match ban if he unsuccessfully fights the charge, which results from his 26th-minute hit on Brisbane's Alex Glenn on Friday night.

Matt Scott, who suffered a knee injury against the Broncos, is facing a one-match ban, while Gubb can avoid a suspension if he pleads guilty to a grade one dangerous contact charge.

 

 

Taumalolo to trial for NFL spot

News Corporation is reporting Taumalolo flew from London immediately after playing for the Kiwis in their loss to Australia in the Four Nations final, to be tested by American Football scouts.

The North Queensland Cowboys star - who was named joint-Dally M medallist with Cooper Cronk this year - put rumours about a possible code switch to bed less than two months ago, declaring he wanted to become an National Rugby League great.

The North Queensland Cowboys lock shared the Dally M Medal with Cooper Cronk this week and joins Canberra Raiders pair Jordan Rapana and Joseph Tapine in getting the international nod.

New coach David Kidwell will cut his 32-man selection down to 24 next week as he prepares for his first game at the helm.

RNZ reports the North Queensland Cowboys lock and Melbourne Storm half-back headed into the final round of counting level on 26 points, but neither managed to poll, meaning the league's top honour was shared for the second time in three years.

Cameron Smith and Johnathan Thurston followed in equal third on 22 points.

Kiwi's star Taumalolo said he was happy to share the award with Cronk, but was modest when talking about his own outstanding season.

"I don't think I changed compared to last year, just run harder," he said.

Taumalolo charged after egging cars

Taumalolo and the other four players have been charged with two counts of wilful damage and will appear in court next month.

The group were stopped by police for a random breath test on Tuesday night when a person accused them of throwing eggs.

It's claimed that earlier in the evening the men purchased and threw eggs which damaged five vehicles, before driving off.
