Oatly raises $200m from celebrity backers including Oprah and Jay-Z

The firm on Tuesday said a group including investment giant Blackstone Group and celebrities Oprah Winfrey, Jay-Z and Natalie Portman bought a stake in the company for $200m (£160m).

The move is a sign of growing interest in milk made with plant alternatives.

Oatly said the money would be used to expand and build new production plants.

Founded in the 1990s, Oatly entered the US market four years ago and the product proved so popular it created shortages.

The action claims the men's lives "are in peril" due to "understaffing and neglect" in Mississippi's prisons.

Jay-Z launched the action through Team Roc, the philanthropic division of his entertainment empire Roc Nation.

It comes after five prisoners were killed in attacks in the state's prisons in one week over the New Year.

The lawsuit alleges chronic underfunding and understaffing has resulted in "prisons where violence reigns" and an "unthinkable" spate of deaths.

The site reports that the documents were filed under a company owned by the American musicians.

But rapper and producer Jay Z moved into second place largely because of the $200m (£155m) investment in his Tidal music streaming service from US mobile phone operator and communications company Sprint in January.
