Debutants in Kiwi and Kiwi Ferns teams for Mate Ma'a Tonga tests

Parramatta duo Dylan Brown and Marata Niukore plus Cronulla Sutherland winger Ronaldo Mulitalo and Penrith prop Moses Leota will all play their first Test for the Kiwis.

Brown is paired in the halves with Melbourne halfback Jahrome Hughes, Mulitalo is on the wing, Niukore is in the centres with the experienced Peta Hiku and Leota is on a potent bench.

Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns to square off against Tonga

The tests will be played at Mt Smart stadium on June 25th.

It's 14 years since Kiwi Ferns played Hakula Tonga, where they chalked up a 40 point win at the 2008 World Cup.

Organisers hope the women's test will achieve a world record crowd attendance for a women's rugby league gam, which currently sits at 18,000.

Pre-pandemic, the world number one ranked Kiwis had a series win against Great Britain and a 34-14 win against Tonga rivals in 2019.

Despite their loss to the Kiwis, Tonga achieved a historic 16-12 upset over the Kangaroos in the same year.

53 arrests as celebrations turn ugly

Senior Sergeant Clive Wood said people "let off fireworks near a petrol station, threw missiles at police, obstructed roads and footpaths and behaved in a very disorderly manner" in Otahuhu's main shopping area after 9pm.

At one stage, an ambulance was prevented from getting to a medical emergency, he said.

"These people, who appeared to have no care for anyone's welfare, didn't think about the consequences of their actions and I do hope they take time out to reflect on how badly they behaved".

Kiwis to play 'traditional' style: Johnson

Johnson endured a miserable back-end to the 2017 NRL season, injuring his knee and missing six games as his Warriors outfit missed the finals.

But with almost two months separating his last Warriors match and Saturday's clash with Toa Samoa, the star halfback said he felt like a new man.

A host of injuries and squad defections - most prominently Jason Taumalolo - had allowed coach David Kidwell to start afresh with combinations.

With Kieran Foran out injured, Johnson will likely start in the halves alongside in-form Cowboys young gun Te Maire Martin.
