Despite Barrett's best intentions to shield his players from the fallout of the $750,000 fine and $660,000 in cap deductions over 2018-19 announced on Monday, he has 12 players off contract at the end of this year – seven are in the 17 he named to face the Canberra Raiders at Lottoland on Saturday.

"We've spoken as a group about it and we'll do our best to keep them informed about what’s going on," Barrett said on Friday.

"As I understand it the club did lodge an appeal last night (Thursday) so who knows what's going to happen.

The club has been fined $750,000 and two officials - chief operating officer Neil Bare and former CEO Joe Kelly, who is now the boss at the Sydney Roosters - receiving 12-month bans.

Manly will also have a $660,000 penalty applied to their salary cap for this season and the 2019 Telstra Premiership.

The breaches involve 13 players over five years, totalling $1.5 million.

Moses Suli is expected to front for training on Monday as he restarts his career with Manly.

The troubled teen has agreed to a bottom dollar one-year-deal.

It was an easy offer for the Sea Eagles to make.

Just like Canterbury, the Sea Eagles are well aware of his past and the challenges they may face, but they didn’t hesitate in offering the NRL lifeline.

Why? Because a usually reserved and shy Suli is on his last legs and joining a team filled with his closest friends.

The terms of the deal, which was sealed late Friday night, weren’t disclosed but Suli is expected to start training with his new Sea Eagles teammates on Monday.

Suli was sacked by the Bulldogs on Wednesday after a nightmare stint at Belmore that was marked by laziness and a lack of desire to put in for his massive contract.

Suli and his manager were spotted with Manly officials at Narrabeen on Thursday morning to discuss an NRL lifeline.

The Dragons haven't won at Lottoland since a 20-18 victory in 2008, with the Red V outscored 118-26 in their past four matches at the venue. 

The three-time Dally M Winger of the Year was discarded from first grade after Round 12 and never pulled on the red and blue jersey again. 

For the first time in his career, he wasn't enjoying his footy. It stopped being fun and it showed. His form was down and it was affecting him badly on and off the field. 

Manly's understrength forward pack got the job done against the Cowboys in Townsville in Round 3 to help the team to their first win of the season but the return of aggressive props Marty Taupau and Addin Fonua-Blake – combined with some wonderful efforts from the likes of Daly Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic – saw the side rack up a huge score against the Dogs.

The Sea Eagles are working closely with the NRL, the RLPA, and the players’ respective managers George Mimis (Stewart) and Gavin Orr (Matai) to give the players a dignified and respectful exit from their brilliant careers.
