Elizabeth Chan, who exclusively performs Christmas music, has filed a formal objection to the claim.

And fellow singer Darlene Love took to Facebook to say she has been Queen of Christmas since before Carey rose to fame.

Carey's representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment.

The trademark bid was filed in March 2021 but has only recently been made public. It is still under consideration.

Carey's 1994 album, Merry Christmas, is one of the best-selling Christmas albums of all time.

Songwriter Andy Stone says he co-wrote a song with the same name five years earlier, arguing that Ms Carey exploited his "popularity" and "style".

Despite sharing a title, the two songs appear musically different, but Mr Stone claims Ms Carey caused confusion and did not ask for permission.

Ms Carey has not yet responded.

In her complaint, Alison Carey referred to claims in the book that she gave 12-year-old Mariah Valium, tried to pimp her out and threw boiling tea on her.

Alison denied the claims, saying Mariah "presented no evidence to substantiate these serious allegations".

The pop star published The Meaning of Mariah Carey in September.

Alison, who was 20 at the time the alleged events took place, filed her two-page legal complaint at New York Supreme Court on Monday.

It said the "outrageous" material in Mariah's book was meant to "humiliate and embarrass" her sister.

Taken from Carey's album 1994 Merry Christmas, the modern classic was originally held off the top spot by East 17's Stay Another Day.

However, it finally climbed to the summit this week, after being streamed 10.8 million times.

"Happy Christmas UK! We finally made it!" said Carey on hearing the news.

"We are keeping the Christmas spirit alive together despite how dismal the year's been.

Mariah Carey announced the news on Twitter to her 17.6 million followers.

She wrote: "My song is becoming a movie! You're the first to hear about this exciting news".

It will be out for the Christmas holiday season at the end of the year and will be called All I Want.

In it she lies on a sofa in festive pyjamas stroking a small Jack Russell dog who seems to be trying to run away.

There's also a clue to what the animated film will look like in the shape of a copy of her book version of the song.

Carey's team is blaming Dick Clark Productions, the production company behind the annual "New Year's Rockin' Eve" special on ABC, saying the company "set her up to fail." And Dick Clark Productions is firing back.
