Britney Spears announces 'devastating' miscarriage

The singer told her Instagram followers that she and partner Sam Asghari had "lost our miracle baby".

It comes months after she escaped a legal arrangement that gave her father control over many aspects of her life, including her reproductive health.

The 40-year-old, who has two teenage sons, previously said she wanted a family with personal trainer Asghari.

"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy," she wrote in a post on Saturday.

She continued: "This is a devastating time for any parent.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex tells of 'unbearable grief' of miscarriage

"I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second," Meghan said in a piece for the New York Times.

She went on to describe how she watched "my husband's heart break as he tried to hold the shattered pieces of mine".

Meghan wrote that "loss and pain have plagued every one of us in 2020".

The 39-year-old shared her experience to urge people to "commit to asking others, 'are you OK?'" over the Thanksgiving holiday in the US.

Some antibiotics 'linked to miscarriage'

Macrolides, quinolones, tetracyclines, sulfonamides and metronidazole were related to higher rates of pregnancy loss, the researchers say. However, a greater chance of pregnancy loss was not seen with the most frequently used antibiotics, including penicillin.

"It is reassuring to see that first-line treatments and antibiotics that are the most used in the population (penicillin, cephalosporin) were not associated with an increased risk of miscarriage," Dr. Anick Bérard, lead researcher and a member of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Université de Montréal, wrote in an email.

Miscarriage can trigger post-traumatic stress disorder

At their early pregnancy loss clinic, a third of the women have PTSD symptoms.

Nicole Martin had three miscarriages in a year, her "dark days".

"Everyone thinks because you've already got a child it's easier. In a lot of respects it definitely is easier than not having a child, but I wanted another child for [my child's] sake."

Nicole and her husband, Ben, started trying for their second child just after their first, Eva, had turned one.

"I was 38 years old and fully aware of the risks associated with having children a bit later in life," she says.
