Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant won't be ready for start of NBA finals

The two-time reigning finals MVP has yet to return to on-court work while recovering from a strained right calf.

Big man DeMarcus Cousins might be healthy for Golden State's series opener against either Milwaukee or Toronto.

"Potentially," coach Steve Kerr said Thursday [Friday NZ time], "but it's up in the air."

The team re-evaluated both players Thursday and they are expected to be ready at some point during Golden State's fifth straight finals.

Durant: Olympics were 'therapy' after free agency decision

Kevin Durant said playing for the United States in the Olympics was like "therapy" after signing with the Golden State Warriors last month. 

In a normal year, Durant would have nothing but months to be questioned about his decision with no basketball until camps open in late September.

Durant leads USA into semi-finals

The United States men's basketball team finally turned in the dominant performance everyone had been waiting for to comfortably defeat Argentina and reach the semi-finals at Rio 2016.

Mike Krzyzewski's USA team eased to a 105-78 victory on Wednesday, setting up a semi-final meeting with Spain.

NBA player Bryce Dejean-Jones fatally shot

A Dallas resident told police he heard someone enter his apartment by kicking open the front door, police spokesman DeMarquis Black said in a statement. The resident said "he called out to the individual, but was not answered," and when the resident's bedroom door was kicked open, the resident fired his gun, police said.

Dejean-Jones collapsed in the breezeway, police said. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, Black said.

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Thunder thrashed Defending Champions Golden State Warriors, 133-105, on Sunday to lead 2-1 in the best-of-seven semi-finals series.

Ex-NBA guard Rex Chapman pleads guilty in shoplifting case

Chapman was arrested last Sept. 19 for allegedly shoplifting more than $15,000 worth of merchandise from an Apple store in Scottsdale and then selling the items at a pawn shop.

Prosecutors say Chapman pleaded guilty last week to four felony theft charges, which could be reduced to misdemeanors at his Sept. 25 sentencing hearing.

The 47-year-old Chapman has agreed to pay full restitution and serve 750 hours of community service.
