Samoa tops Oceania Rugby Championship ranking

Manusina XV's win in the just-completed Oceania Championship has seen them move up two places to 16th.

Fiji has slipped three places to 19th.

Tonga remains 29th and Papua New Guinea 49th.

England tops the women's rankings, followed by New Zealand and France.

 

     

Naikore scores hat-trick as Fiji wins its second tournament match

The Fijiana defeated Tonga 34-7.

Naikore opened the scoring for the side in the 10th minute for a 5-0 lead.

Tonga hit back after Fijiana winger Kolora Lomani was sinbinned for foul play, seeing captain Mele Hufanga scoring a converted try for a 7-5 lead.

But Fiji hit back with a second try to Naikore just two minutes later seeing the national side lead 10-7 at the break.

Fijiana dominated the second spell with Naikore completing a hat-trick.

     

Tonga to face PNG in bronze medal play-off

The team won four out of five pool matches losing to Australia in its last game.

Tonga is likely to play in the Olympic Recharge Tournament in France next year if they defeat PNG in the today’s face off.

By making the bronze medal match, the side has qualified for World Series tournaments in Chile and Uruguay next year that are qualifiers for Hong Kong.

The three days Oceania Rugby Championship tournament will end this afternoon at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
