Arrest following death of young man

A 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday and will be appearing in Auckland District Court today charged with manslaughter.

“The inquiry team have worked tirelessly since the weekend to understand the circumstances of what happened in the incident.

The arrest today is an important step in the investigation and will hopefully bring some relief for the friends and family of the victim,” said Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe.

Reginald Sharma of Avondale died in the early hours of August 19 in Haughey Avenue.

Victim described as ‘selfless, cheerful’

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Reginald Sharma of Tongan and Indo-Fijian descent.

The Avondale man, described as selfless and cheerful on social media, died on a driveway at the Haughey Ave property despite efforts to save him by performing CPR.

Sharma is being remembered on social media as an awesome, fun loving, cheerful son, brother, nephew, father and stepfather.

"... a person with a heart of gold always putting others first we are truly gonna miss you," his partner wrote.

The couple were expecting a child together.
