Disabled face discrimination in Tonga according to survey

The survey conducted by Australia's Aid Programme and Tonga's Ministry of Education stated that disabled people in Tonga faced social stigma.

"People with disability are one of the most marginalised and vulnerable groups in Tongan society. They often face stigma, exclusion and discrimination, and lack voice and influence over community and national resources," according to the report.

It outlined various testimonies including discrimination in employment and education.

USP report on alleged mismanagement two months away

The terms of reference for the investigation have been drawn up and sent to University Council members for their approval.

In a statement, the university said once the terms are approved, the risk and audit committee will invite several independent investigators to register their interest.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption is conducting a separate investigation into the allegations, which were first reported by Islands Business last month.

Report provides snapshot of Pacific trade

The report uses International Trade Centre data to illustrate the main primary sector export products from 15 Pacific Island countries, the main export markets for these products and whether they are growing or declining. 

Fiji shines as an example for other Pacific Island countries to follow, accounting for 96 per cent of all regional exports.
