Ronaldinho maintains his innocence

Ronaldinho and Roberto Assis, the former footballer's brother and agent, were arrested on March 6 shortly after arriving in Asuncion to promote a book and the launch of an online casino.

Local authorities shared an image of what appeared to be a Paraguayan ID card bearing Ronaldinho's name and photo, with the former Ballon d'Or winner and his sibling taken into custody despite prosecutors proposing a different sanction, arguing the pair had been tricked.

Ronaldinho and brother under house arrest in Paraguay

The 2005 Ballon d'Or winner had spent time in jail along with his brother after being arrested on 6 March, accused of using fake passports.

The pair had previously been denied bail but posted $800,000 (£648,000) each and must now stay in a four-star hotel in Asuncion while awaiting trial.

Both Ronaldinho, 40, and his brother Roberto Assis deny any wrongdoing.

Their lawyer has called their imprisonment "arbitrary, abusive and illegal."

Ronaldinho uneasy with Neymar move

The Ligue 1 giants completed a stunning transfer coup last week by meeting the forward's €222m release clause at Camp Nou.

Neymar continued a lineage of Brazilian superstars plying their trade in Catalonia, where Ronaldinho dazzled spectacularly on his way to the 2005 Ballon d'Or.

It is thought Neymar's desire to step out of Lionel Messi's shadow and claim world football's most coveted individual prize was a motivating factor in his decision to join PSG but Ronaldinho believes the 25-year-old is failing to see the bigger picture.

Rashford takes pic with Ronaldinho

And, while on his travels, one the game's brightest prospects bumped into one of its greatest players in the form of the Brazil and Barcelona great.

Capturing the moment on camera, Rashford posted the results on Twitter with a caption that read: "Nice to sit down and chat with the king @10Ronaldinho."
