Struggling Salford sign Tonga half-back until end of 2021 season

Hingano, 24, has played NRL for New Zealand Warriors and Canberra Raiders.

After joining Queensland side Mackay Cutters in late 2019, he played once before the 2020 season was cancelled.

He joined North Queensland Cowboys on a train-and-trial deal ahead of the 2021 season but the Tonga international has now opted to try his luck in England.

Former Kiwi Elijah Taylor joins Super League club after losing $400,000 to manager

Taylor, 30, joins the Salford Red Devils after being released by NRL club Wests Tigers at the end of the 2020 season.

The former Warriors favourite said he had “spoken to a few of the players who I know, and Salford sounds like a great club”.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity of playing at Salford, ripping into training and living over there.

“I’ve been following Salford over the last two years and have always wanted to play in the Super League at some stage. Speaking with Rich [coach Richard Marshall], I’m excited about playing for the club.”

Injury forces early termination of Manu Vatuvei's contract with Salford

After playing the side's final eight matches of 2017, Vatuvei has taken no part in the current Super League season after severely damaging his Achilles tendon in a freak training accident in February.

His contract was set to expire at the end of this season, but the 32-year-old will part ways with the Red Devils immediately.

"Unfortunately, the injury Manu sustained in pre-season meant that he would be out for the full season," said Salford director Ian Blease.

Vatuvei pulls up for Salford

Vatuvei left the Warriors in July to sign with the English club Salford. He has scored five tries in eight appearances with the Red Devils.

Salford have released a statement saying Vatuvei had suffered a suspected serious Achilles injury.

The 31-year-old wing is awaiting the results of a scan to determine the severity of the injury, which he suffered in training on Friday.

"It's terribly unfortunate that Manu has sustained an injury this close to the start of the season," said Salford head coach Ian Watson.
