Tonga Police recover stolen car, parts stripped off

Police said the white Toyota Wish Car C37740 was found with the parts already dismantled.

Its various parts were located and seized by Police on Monday, from two different houses, one at Vainī and the other at Holonga.

An official from the Ministry of Infrastructure has confirmed the engine number to be that of the stolen car.

The car was allegedly stolen from outside the ANZ Bank when the driver stepped out to use the ATM.

Magistrate Salesi Mafi has ordered that the suspect be kept in Police remand until Monday, 20 February 2023.

Five dead in Norway bow and arrow attack

Police first received word of an attack in the town of Kongsberg, south-west of the capital Oslo, at around 18:13 local time (16:13 GMT).

Chief Oeyvind Aas said a suspect had been caught and seemed to have acted alone.

Police will investigate whether it was an act of terror, a spokesman said.

"It is a tragedy for all those affected," Mayor Kari Anne Sand told VG newspaper. "I have no words."

Man arrested over attack on King’s noble Lord Dalgety

The accused has been charged with attempted robbery and bodily harm.

He has been remanded in police custody to appear at the Magistrate Court later this week.

Lord Dalgety was reportedly injured during a home invasion at his residence at Haáteiho on 8 February.

Cash, methamphetamine seized in Tonga drug raid

Police confiscated illicit drugs, cash and drug utensils from the suspect’s house on Tuesday last week.

Officers of the Drug Enforcement Taskforce also seized 26.76 grams of methamphetamine and over $1,500.00 pa’anga in cash during the Police operation.

The man has been charged with possession of illicit drugs and has been remanded in custody to appear in the Magistrates Court at a later date.

A/DPC Tevita Vailea said Police is committed to disrupt and detect the supply of drugs and hold those responsible to account.

Tonga police arrest man over shooting incident in Nukunuku

A 22-year-old man from Fua’amotu is at Vaiola hospital with injury sustained from a gunshot wound to his stomach during an altercation with the suspect.

Police also seized a .22 rifle from the suspect.

The suspect is in police custody while an investigation continues.

 

     

Tonga police arrest man for indecently assaulting child

Acting Police Superintendent, Semi Ve’ehala said the welfare of the child is paramount in their investigation.

He said Police and Victim Support are doing everything they can to support the victim and her family.

“Police are committed to doing everything in our power to prevent this type of abuse and harm, protect victims and hold perpetrators to account. It is vital that parents are aware of where their children are at all times, who they are communicating with and have some open and frank conversations about keeping safe, and not talking to strangers."

Suspect arrested over Bloody Ridge plaque theft

The plaque was laid last week during commemorations for the 75th anniversary of the battle of Guadalcanal.

Police said the plaque was recovered in the Lunga river area and they said the suspect was arrested near the New Zealand Camp east of Honiara.

The police have thanked the community including members of the suspect's immediate family for assisting in the arrest.

Man in custody after Korean-Kolomotu’a business couple attacked, Police search for second offender

Tongan Police have arrested a 24-year-old man and charged him with armed robbery and assault causing bodily harm shortly after they received report of the incident but were still searching for a second man in relation to the attack.

Police said the attack happened during night time shortly after the victims arrived home from their restaurant business in the Nuku’alofa Central Business District.
