Memories of the way the Waratahs used bruisers like Will Skelton and Tolu Latu to poke, niggle and provoke - illegally and otherwise - the Crusaders when they last visited Sydney haven't been forgotten.

Neither they should be. Watching the Waratahs forwards steam into the Crusaders in 2015, and you have to admit the city boys really did give the men from New Zealand the big V, made for painful viewing.

Waratahs and Brumbies fans will get to watch their teams square off for the newly introduced trophy, which is named after the 63-test Wallaby who died last month in non-suspicious circumstances. 

The former South African-born lock played 20 Super Rugby matches for the Brumbies between 2001-2003, before heading north to the Waratahs and notching 58 caps between 2004-2011. 

On the turf of Sydney University Oval No.1, where Vickerman ran out for the Students between 2001 and 2011, a huge crowd of mourners came to remember the life of the former Waratahs and Wallabies second-rower who died on February 18, aged 37. 

Stories were told by Vickerman's best man Richard Bell, former teammates Chris Malone and David Lyons, and close family friend David Marr, in front of a packed grandstand sprinkled with former Wallabies. 

The 25-year-old man was on his parents' property in Sydney when he plunged into dense bushland late on Sunday night, sparking a complex rescue operation.

He was winched to safety almost five hours later and treated for shoulder and chest injuries, paramedics said. The man remains in a stable condition.

New South Police Sergeant Peter McMaugh said it was remarkable the man was alive.

The 35m strike after the final hooter ensured the Dunedin-based franchise finished their pre-season with a win, having previously lost to the Crusaders and been bundled out in the Brisbane Tens quarterfinals.

But midfielder Rob Thompson crashed over under the sticks with a few minutes left on the clock, before Smith snatched the game with his right-boot. 

One of the trio was later released while the other two were still in detention.

They were arrested while sleeping in a garage.

A person at the residence told Kaniva News they were awaken at 5am this morning  by immigration enforcement officers surrounding their house and forcing everyone to show their IDs.

He said about 30 officers were at the scene.

He said they hoped the duo could be released on bail.

The Bureau of Meteorology said some areas recorded as much as 49 millimetres in an hour.

RNZ reports the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) said a building with 100 people inside was threatening to collapse in the western suburb of Marrickville, after the morning of heavy rain.

SES crews were en route to the site.

Emergency services were also called to about 13 flood-related rescues.

SES spokeswoman Becky Gollings said the rescued people were caught by surprise but were now safe.

The Fijiana finished fifth at the opening leg in Dubai in December and head coach Iliesa Tanivula said their goal remains to become a semifinal regular.

"We just didn't take our chances in the quarter final against England - we thought we gave it away," he said.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves and made a couple of silly mistakes but it's something that we've spoken about as a squad.

"We've really worked hard and the girls have really really bought into it so just looking forward to this weekend."

The 40-year-old man was arrested at Sydney Airport on Thursday after arriving on a plane from London.

The alleged threats were made on social media, said Acting Deputy Commissioner Frank Mennilli.

Police also raided a house and a storage facility in Sydney, seizing documents and computer hard drives.

There was no remaining threat to the community, police said. However, they would not provide details of the alleged threats while the matter was before the court.

Kaniva News reports the victim was semi-conscious when Police arrived and he was taken to hospital with another man.

The incident also saw a passing motorist’s car window being shattered because of the brawl.
