When Tinder date results in motherhood

Having just come out of long-term relationships, they weren't chasing anything serious.

So when Tessa's suspected food poisoning turned out to be pregnancy not long into their mutually beneficial arrangement, it was a shock.

"I remember bursting into tears, getting straight in my car to go to my friend's place where I walked in the door and threw the test on the table and just cried," 27-year-old Tessa of Sorrento, Victoria says.

"It was definitely not on my agenda."

App has made 250,000 transgender matches

In November, the popular dating app introduced the option to let users identify as any gender, not just male or female.

 

As a result, the app has seen roughly 250,000 matches with transgender users, Tinder founder and chairman Sean Rad announced onstage at SXSW on Friday.

GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, on a panel with Rad about inclusivity, commended the steps that Tinder has taken to elevate trans people.

In the article, reporter Nico Hines -- a straight, married man -- recounted using dating apps like Tinder and the gay-oriented Grindr to meet athletes in the Olympic Village in Rio.

Headlined "The Other Olympic Sport In Rio: Swiping," the article drew angry accusations that Hines had outed gay athletes, whom he didn't identify by name, with his descriptions of them.

Man pleads guilty to making Facebook threats against a woman over Tinder profile

Zane Alchin, 25, was charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass and cause offence.

In August last year, he posted a series of abusive and threatening comments to 25-year-old Olivia Melville from Sydney's south.

A friend of Alchin's had taken a screenshot of her Tinder profile and posted it on Facebook, where it was shared thousands of times.

After that, Ms Melville received many abusive online messages from strangers.
