VOEA Neiafu arrives in Australia

The vessel will be handed over to the Australian Authority for disposal after 30 plus years of services in the Tongan Navy.

The crew will fly over to Perth to start training for the new patrol boat.

The Commanding Officer of Neiafu, Commander Holokaukau Lakai reported that all the 21 crew are well.

The new patrol boat is expected to arrive in Tonga in December 2020.

Rear Admiral Colin Lawrence, Head of Navy Engineering, Australian Defence Force said the arrival of Voea Ngahau Koula “marks the first step in the new era for Tonga’s maritime security”.

He said that the new patrol boat is the only the third of the 21 vessels gifted by Australia under the Pacific Maritime Security Program for 12 Pacific Island Countries including Timor Leste.
