Senior Sergeant Mark Clayton said Sione Moala was sentenced in the High Court at Auckland on Tuesday after attacking a man outside a bar in April 2016.

Moala was given the two-and-a-half year sentence after being found guilty of wounding with intent to injure and fighting in a public place.

He would not be eligible for parole, Clayton said.

Clayton said Moala had approached a man he didn't know outside a central Auckland bar and in a "senseless and unprovoked attack", left him seriously injured.

AFP arrested ‘Iunisitani Toluta’u, 32, with another man and have seized approximately 38 kilograms of methamphetamine trafficked through Sydney airport.

Kaniva News reports both men were scheduled to appear before Sydney Central Local Court on Thursday to face charges relating to their alleged involvement in this criminal enterprise.

Toluta’u of Campsie, who was an employee of an airport service provider, allegedly used his access to secure areas at Sydney Airport to offload two rucksacks from the luggage hold of an incoming flight from Canada on Wednesday, 6 March 2019.

Taniela Siale Lopiseni Salakielu, 22, of Henderson, Nevada, was charged Friday with murder, a first-degree felony; burglary, a second-degree felony; and theft, also a second-degree felony in 2nd District Court.

The state’s media reports said Salakielu was arrested on 22 August 2018, in relation to the death of Rand Hatch, after Hatch was found dead in his Bountiful home a few days earlier.

Bountiful Police began investigating Hatch’s death after his body was found by his brother on 19 August.

Siosifa Kaufusi who is believed to be in his 20s died on November 1 in Carnarvon.

‘Ēpalahame Maama Tāufa has appeared in court this week and it is understood he is scheduled to reappear before a judge on November 19.

A member of a small Tongan community in Carnarvon, Joanna V Matangi said on a video a fundraising had been organised to help bring back Kaufusi’s body to his family in Tonga.

In one of the latest videos shared on Facebook this week by Matangi she said the fundraising has been successful.

Stuff.co reports Police executed a search warrant in south Auckland on Wednesday morning and the man arrested for drug offences allegedly connected to the incident.

The man is the third person to face charges in relation to the circumstances surrounding Ula's death, Detective Senior Sergeant Christiaan Barnard of Kapiti-Mana police said.

He will appear at Manukau District Court later on Wednesday charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply and conspiracy to supply methamphetamine.

Ula died after falling out of a car in Porirua a week ago.

Police believe Ula was a passenger in the vehicle immediately before getting into a black Mercedes, which is believed to be the car he fell from.

It's not known whether Ula was pushed out of the car.

NZ Herald reports Police put out a call yesterday to urgently speak to the driver of the Mazda.

They have since identified and spoken to him.

Lufe was convicted before Judge Treston on a charge of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempting to pervert the cause of justice and breaching release conditions.

Kaniva News reports Lufe appealed against the length of his sentence and the ruling that he must serve a minimum of three years.

At his original trial, Lufe pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to pervert the cause of justice and breaching release conditions.

He denied the charge of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, but was convicted by a jury.

According to a press release issued by Bountiful Police Wednesday, police responded to a residence near 1400 East Lakeview Drive Sunday.

A family member who had not seen their loved one in several days found 50-year-old Rand Hatch deceased. Police say there was evidence to indicate trauma and noted Hatch’s vehicle had been stolen from the residence.

The investigation led police to 22-year-old Taniela Siale Lopiseni Salakielu, who was identified as a person of interest. After interviewing Salakielu, police say the man admitted to arguing with Hatch at Hatch’s residence.

Ben Apikatoa had responded to a call for help from Cassie Sanders, who was allegedly assaulted by her former partner, Nathan Chatimba.

Police allege the two men - who were known to each other - were arguing in the front yard of the St Clair house when Chatimba attacked Apikotoa.

Chatimba was arrested about two hours later at a home some 2km away and was charged with murder and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Australian media report William Hunuki, 27, was stabbed in the abdomen at a unit in Bankstown.

Hunuki died after his life support was switched off in Liverpool Hospital about 9pm on Saturday.

Alexander John Dunleavy, 26, faced Parramatta bail court yesterday, accused of delivering the fatal wounds after an altercation.

He was also charged with assaulting an officer in the execution of his duty.

Mr Dunleavy, who police said was known to his victim, did not apply for bail and it was formally denied by the magistrate.
