Japan formalizes assistance to three Grassroots Human Security Projects in Tonga

A grant contract signed in Nuku’alofa has formalized Japan’s assistance to three projects in Tonga.

The projects include restoring emergency medical services for Ha’apai and ‘Eua with the purchase of an ambulance vehicle for each island.

Radio Tonga reports another project involves installing an ice making machine for ‘Uiha Island to boost their fishery sector.

Funding will also be provided for the construction of four classrooms for the technical course students of Tonga College ‘Atele.

Speaking at the signing ceremony the Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, H.E Yukio Numata urged the recipients to take good care of the assistance so that it not only benefit today’s generations but also the future.

“In total these projects are approximately almost half a million Tongan pa’anga, and attempts to address a broader scope of human insecurities. I am confident that with our coordinated efforts we can overcome many of the hardships that the Kingdom faces. I am certain that through these interactions the existing warm friendship between our countries will become even stronger, “Ambassador Numata said.

Tonga Director of Health, Dr. Siale ‘Akauola thanked the government of Japan for this great assistance.
