Loto Lelei group receives T$24, 450 from New Zealand High Commission Fund

New Zealand High Commissioner, Tiffany Babington, approved grant funding of T$24,450 to the Loto Lelei group of Ha’asini under the New Zealand High Commission Fund.

The initiative aims to empower young women in the community by teaching them essential cultural activities and self- development skills.

Unemployment, particularly with young women in the community, continues to be high, and this activity will seek to provide the means and inputs that will enable participants to become more productive in cultural activities such as traditional handicraft making, the High Commission said.

“We are spending a significant amount of funds to encourage female youth focus on something more important and to give them self-development skills in order to increase women empowerment and for these young women to have successful lives. We greatly appreciate the assistance from New Zealand High Commission to achieve this goal,” Project Coordinator Tali’aho Vaiomo’unga said.

The New Zealand High Commission Fund supports small scale and short-term community based projects to reduce poverty and contribute to a more secure and prosperous world.
