Road safety campaign held in Nuku’alofa

A public campaign on road safety has heard that a total of sixteen people have been killed in traffic accidents in Tonga.

Acting CEO of the Ministry of Infrastructure Kisione Taufa says this rate is more than twice the international rate of death which is 6.

According to Radio Tonga, Kisione said, one life is estimated to cost about TOP$28 million worldwide, then we witness the sum of money that Tonga loses with the number of deaths on the road rising to a record high when the year is not yet over.

Kisione made the comments at a public hearing at Tuivakano Polutele Hall in Nukunuku this week.

“There is Only One Life”, is the theme for a road safety campaign by the Ministry’s transport sector.

The campaign is being held as part of efforts to curb road accidents and fatalities during the festive season.
