Tonga extends COVID-19 State of Emergency

Prime Minister Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa has approved the extension of the declaration of the State of Emergency due to the ongoing threats of COVID-19 in countries near to Tonga.

The extension is effective from tonight until 8pm 25 October.

Tonga is one of the few remaining countries that has remained COVID-19 free since the global pandemic began in March 2020.

The kingdom’s borders remain closed to international flights.
